Traditional Beef Chili

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 cup diced green pepper
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 recipe chili seasoning blend
  • 28 oz can petite diced tomato with liquid
  • 15 oz can chili beans, mild or hot with liquid
  • 1/2 cup water

Chili Seasoning Blend

  • 1 1/2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp Mexican oregano optional
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper optional, for added heat

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a medium stock pot over medium-low heat.
  • Saute the diced onion and green pepper and cook until beginning to soften, about 3 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef to the pot and stir to break up any clumps.
  • Add chili seasoning blend and stir to combine.
  • Once the ground beef is browned add the diced tomatoes, beans, and water.
  • Stir until all ingredients are combined.
  • Cover the pot and let simmer until all the flavors come together, about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve with your choice of toppings or sides.
