I think everyone has a favorite brand of bottled ranch dressing. And to be honest, most of them aren’t too bad. Even most homemade versions still use a store bought packet of seasoning mix. With this recipe, Im going to show you how to make ranch dressing entirely from scratch. The buttermilk, the mayonnaise, and the seasoning, all homemade.
Ingredients For Homemade Ranch Dressing
- Buttermilk- You can purchase store bought buttermilk and use that but for the sake of making everything from scratch, I used the buttermilk left over when I made homemade butter.
- Mayonnaise- Same as the buttermilk, if you have a favorite brand of mayo, use it. I like to make my own mayo and use that when making dressing. You can find that recipe here.
- Optional Greek Yogurt– I say this is optional because if you are using store bought buttermilk you probably won’t need to add the yogurt. When using buttermilk from fresh churned butter, it is not as thick and therefore I added the yogurt so that the dressing wasn’t as thin and runny.
- Dried Dill
- Dried Parsley
- Garlic Powder
- Dried Chives
- Salt and Pepper
How To Make Ranch Dressing
Add your buttermilk, mayonnaise and yogurt, if using, to a small bowl. Whisk to combine.
Add the seasonings and continue whisking until all incorporated.
Chill until ready to serve.
