You would have to be living under a rock not to notice the division in the world today. As far as I can tell, we have only been trying to band aid the problems. Words like “tolerance”, “inclusion”, and “acceptance” are getting tossed around as the solution. The only real solution for the problems we face in this world is The Gospel.
The definition of the gospel, in its simplest terms, means “the good news”. The good news of what exactly?
Jesus.
The Good News that Jesus paid the price for our sins. His death, burial, and resurrection did what we could never do for ourselves.
We do not earn our salvation by being good people. We receive our salvation by faith in what He has already done for us.
Ephesians 2:8 says “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (ESV)
As Christians we can sometimes overcomplicate the true meaning of the Gospel. It’s not about what version of the Bible you prefer, or how often you read it. It’s not about trying to be perfect or without sin because we never will be. Salvation doesn’t depend on whether or not we have figured out our life purpose.
So then, what must we do to be saved?
Believe.
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
I could go on and on. There are many more verses that say the same thing, however, you will not find a single scripture that says you have to earn your salvation. Belief in Jesus is the only way.
And that, my friends, is the simplicity of the Gospel.
